We’ve now reopened, not just after lockdown but we’ve reopened as Skydive GB Parachute Club. So it’s a new start and a new venture but with the same spectacular Yorkshire seaside scenery we’ve all come to know and love. The skydiving community in Yorkshire has a long and auspicious history and we intend to continue that by building our club to be a welcoming and friendly venue for skydivers of all levels from all over the country.

It’s been a difficult time for all of us in the skydiving community and we’re all keen to return to the skies safely. At Skydive GB we’ve worked hard to develop and implement Covid 19 strategies to keep all our staff, jumpers and customers safe; restoring confidence in the sport and getting us all back in doing what we love. We’ve had a lot of support and encouragement for which we’re incredibly thankful.

Our first weekend of reopening went incredibly well, getting us all current and staying safe. We had static line courses for newbies, as well as refreshers for all our students prior to opening so they were ready and able to progress. Kevin Able completed his first freefall on our first weekend of opening; excellent and impressive work Kev, well done. It’s been great to see RAPS students back in the air and making progress as well as being able to catch up with some regulars and new faces (socially distanced of course).

The following weekend we welcomed Tandem students back to the Yorkshire skies and they were absolutely fantastic; raising a fortune for a range of charities and entertaining us with their stories. We were delighted to welcome the Wings Parachute Display Team for their team training and THE Parachute Team, jumping to support the Royal British Legion, have also joined us for their team training and practice.

As we build up as a club we’re providing extra services for our members, with our clubhouse, lockers and other facilities to help build our community. We’ve a new hangar, packing area, rigging room, camera suite, classrooms, harness training space and soon we’ll be reopening the café; all in all things are starting to look up and our restart is well underway.

We’re moving on up and moving forward so wherever you are in the country, we look forward to seeing you at Skydive GB, Yorkshire’s friendliest and finest (and only) dropzone. Visit us online at skydivegb.com.

Thanks

Ian Baistow-Davies
