Membership Subscriptions from 1 April 2020

British Skydiving Membership Subscriptions from 1 April 2020

Membership subscription rates for most categories comprise two elements: (i) a British Skydiving element and (ii) an insurance element.

(i) British Skydiving element

Council recommends to the AGM an increase in the British Skydiving element of each of the subscription rates of approximately 3%.

(ii) Insurance element

The policy covers members in the event of third party claims against them and Council recommends that the current indemnity limit of £5m be increased to £10m from 1 April 2020, the start of the new membership year.

Tony Butler, Chief Operating Officer, said “British Skydiving and our Affiliated Parachute Training Organisations have worked tirelessly over the years on safety management systems to reduce risk in our sport. This has been reflected by a trend of insurance premiums going down. It remains important, however, against the background of increasing payouts for successful claims in other sectors and other sports, to minimise the risk of our members being held personally liable if they are involved in a skydiving accident. This is why Council believes this doubling of indemnity limit is a significant benefit that provides a higher level of reassurance to our members. The increase in indemnity limit is for the modest year-on-year increase in premium of £6.89 for a full member and £1.71 for a student provisional member.”

Overall subscriptions

The recommended new subscription rates with effect from 1 April 2020 – subject to the usual caveat that there are no major new claims between now and then – are:

Joint Membership renewal: £199.31 – a year-on-year increase of £16.95. Comprises a British Skydiving element of 108.99 and an insurance element of £90.32.

Retired Membership renewal: £64.95 – a year-on-year increase of £1.89.  Comprises a British Skydiving element only, as retired members do not jump.

Temporary membership (1 month): £19.89 – a year-on-year increase of £1.95. Comprises a British Skydiving element of £7.22, VAT of £1.44, and an insurance element of £11.23.

Student Provisional membership: £18.74 – a year-on-year increase of £1.93. Comprises a British Skydiving element of £7.51 and an insurance element of £11.23.

British Skydiving insurance covers third-party claims only. It does not provide personal accident insurance, which members are strongly recommended to take out from the personal insurance market.
