British Skydiving is the trading name of British Parachute Association (BPA) Ltd, founded in 1961. We are the not-for-profit National Governing Body of Skydiving (Sport Parachuting) in the UK. Skydiving is one of the most exciting and exhilarating sports in the world.
In a typical year we have around 6,000 full members, and nearly 55,000 student members. We also have around 28 British Skydiving Affiliated Parachute Training Organisations throughout the UK who affiliate to us to set and maintain standards of safety and training. We employ a small staff, including two World Class technical specialists, at our Leicester headquarters. British Skydiving Is a member of the Royal Aero Club of the United Kingdom and represents the UK on the International Skydiving Commission of Fédération Aéronautique Internationale, the World Air Sports Federation.
We are looking to appoint two independent non-executive Directors and are now inviting applications.
We seek individuals with strong leadership skills who can continue to develop and maintain British Skydiving’s strategic focus and help to direct the organisation towards its future. Applicants need to be able to make a commitment to British Skydiving and devote the necessary time, have strategic vision, independent judgement, an ability to think creatively and a willingness to speak their mind.
The role involves taking part in quarterly Council (Board of Directors) meetings and other activities between them – such as strategy days, working parties, etc; and providing advice to officers and senior officials (staff).
We are looking for candidates who have skills in one or more of the following areas:
Organisational development and managing change
Income generation and sponsorship
Branding, promotion and marketing
Digital technology and social media
The successful candidates will also need to be able to demonstrate:
an impressive track record of success in the private, public or voluntary sector;
the ability to operate at Board level in a national organisation and to help grow the public profile of British Skydiving and our sport;
the ability to think creatively and strategically; the skills to challenge current thinking at Board level;
a clear commitment to improving diversity and equality and understanding the needs of under-represented groups in sport;
a good understanding of the sporting landscape.

We will pay Directors’ travel expenses and provide a full induction to the organisation’s work. You will be expected to take part in at least four Board meetings a year, which are normally held at British Skydiving HQ in Leicester. In addition, we would encourage your attendance at other British Skydiving meetings and events such as skydiving competitions.
