The past few months have been fairly soul-destroying, and mainly spent cursing the bad weather and praying for less wind, rain and snow. However, it has allowed us the opportunity to work on the structure of Skydive GB and plan a way forward for all involved.
We have been operating for ten years in April 2020, and we are now proud to announce that Skydive GB Parachute Club Limited is being formed. The aim is to bring a difference to the culture of the centre by having a membership organisation that promotes belonging, and a club that the jumpers will be proud of. We will obviously have a celebration to mark this event and will launch the club with beers, BBQs, live music and turbo Airvan lifts to 12,000ft.
In addition, the legendary vintage (1956) Yak 12M is booked to make a guest appearance. The Yak has an exit altitude of 4,500ft and is a world of fun. If you have never jumped one previously, this is definitely an interesting addition to the logbook.
We are planning a Safety Day at the time of writing this article, but we’ve decided to mix it up a little. The day will include all elements of safety, such as incident procedures, equipment and safety management systems, but also a brief on display jumping by an active team leader and an accuracy brief by an accuracy competitor. This will be followed by a jump programme to reflect and practise what has been learned. The day will allow us to consider safety as a priority and practise safely.
Dave Johnson has achieved his B Licence. It has taken a significant amount of time for Dave to physically have the licence in his hand, what with the centre being closed due to poor weather, the Chief Instructor being out of the country and a world of other problems. However, he is now the proud owner of a B Licence and it is well deserved.
