British Skydiving, the not-for-profit National Governing Body for Sport Parachuting, seeks to recruit a Compliance Officer to join its small and dynamic team based at its Leicester HQ. The role will provide key support to the Chief Operating Officer, Secretary-General and Board in assuring compliance of British Skydiving with statutory and other external and internal compliance requirements – including data privacy and security, safeguarding, disciplinary and grievance procedures and whistleblowing – to support whilst ensuring that the needs of all our stakeholders are met.
Person specification
A methodical, accurate, diplomatic and responsive co-ordinator, a self-starter used to working in a compliance/legal environment, such as a paralegal, and able to manage and prioritise multiple demands. Good interpersonal skills to deal sensitively with a range of stakeholders. Excellent communication skills and written English is required. Good listening skills are essential.
Job description
Assure British Skydiving is compliant with a range of business legislation and organisational policies and procedures including but not restricted to safeguarding in the sport, handling cases under the members’ disciplinary and grievance procedures, whistleblowing policy/procedure, and compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018.
Review and draft updates to compliance policies and statements.
Assure, in conjunction with the Safeguarding Adviser and executive staff, that British Skydiving has proportionate, robust and compliant safeguarding policies and procedures in place and that these are reviewed and updated as necessary.
Respond to Subject Access Requests under the Data Protection Act, in conjunction with executive staff and external consultants where applicable.
Administer and progress whistleblowing reports in accordance with the organisation’s published policy, and train HQ staff and others as necessary.
Action safeguarding referrals in consultation with the Safeguarding Adviser and managerial staff.
Administer cases under the grievance and disciplinary procedures in accordance with the prescribed timescales.
Administer any complaints and referrals under the proposed new whistleblowing policy.
Identify any new compliance requirements and taking appropriate action after consultation with executive staff.
Advise Affiliated Parachute Training Organisations of their business compliance obligations (outside those specific to sport parachuting operations) and how to fulfil them – for example, by organising training courses with specialist speakers, etc.
Assist Council, its Committees and staff in maintaining and updating British Skydiving’s business risk matrix.
Respond to correspondence from members and other stakeholders on business compliance matters (excluding finance and sport parachuting operations).
Arrange compliance audits where required.
Liaise with compliance authorities as required.
Report on compliance.
Assist the Secretary-General in strategic development projects which have a compliance dimension.
