Ops Manual Amendments August 2024

AMENDMENTS TO BRITISH SKYDIVING OPERATIONS MANUAL

At the STC meeting of 01 August 2024 a number of amendments were made to the British Skydiving Operations Manual.

The Safety Team would like to make a special mention of the change in the wording regarding hard protective helmets, which has changed from ‘B’ to ‘A’ licence skydivers. Previously, ‘A’ licence skydivers were required to wear open-face helmets. This requirement now only applies to student skydivers.

How does this translate onto the dropzone?

British Skydiving doesn’t have any set rules around full-face helmets (other than being part of the ‘A’ Licence brief) and their suitability. However, it is important to note that it is entirely up to the CI of each dropzone to set out their rules on who can and cannot jump a full-face helmet.

If you have recently gained your ‘A’ licence and are looking to start wearing a full-face helmet (or any new helmet), it is crucial that you check in with your CI for a brief and to ensure the helmet is suitable and approved by them.

Stay safe, and enjoy the summer jumping!
